Los Numéros en español
Spanish numbers:
Things to keep in mind:
- Spelling = remember the letters that cannot be next to each other
example= you cannot have the "z" next to an "E" or "I"
therefore = ce/ci/za/zo/zu
0-10
Cero = 0
Uno = 1
Dos = 2
Tres = 3
Cuatro = 4 (a lot of my students write "cuarto" = this means bedroom, so be careful)
Cinco = 5
Seis = 6
Siete = 7
Ocho = 8
Nueve = 9
Diez = 10
11-15
hint** = all of these numbers end in "-ce"
Once = 11
Doce = 12
Trece = 13
Catorce = 14
Quince = 15
16-19
All of these number have two different ways of being written
Easy: This version combines "diez" and the end number
Diez y seis = 16
Diez y siete = 17
Diez y ocho = 18
Diez y nueve = 19
Difficult: This one combines it all in one
Dieciséis = 16
Diecisiete = 17
Dieciocho = 18
Diecinueve = 19
20's
There are two ways of writing the numbers in the 20's
Important= This group is the LAST group that has two forms
Easy = combine "veinte" with last number
Veinte = 20
Veinte y uno = 21
Veinte y dos = 22
Veinte y tres = 23
Veinte y cuatro = 24
Veinte y cinco = 25
Veinte y seis = 26
Veinte y siete = 27
Veinte y ocho = 28
Veinte y nueve = 29
Difficult = combine to make one word
Veinte = 20
Veintiuno = 21
Veintidos = 22
Veintitres = 23
Veinticuatro = 24
Veinticinco = 25
Veintiséis = 26
Ventisiete = 27
Veintiocho = 28
Veintinueve = 29
After these numbers, (until the 100's) the numbers are pretty straight forward:
Treinta = 30
Treinta y uno = 31
Treinta y dos = 32
Cuarenta = 40
Cuarenta y uno = 41
Cincuenta = 50
Cincuenta y uno = 51
Sesenta = 60
Sesenta y uno = 61
Setenta = 70
Setenta y uno = 71
Ochenta = 80
Ochenta y uno = 81
Noventa = 90
Noventa y uno = 91
The number 100 can be a little tricky, but not too bad
When the number "100" is by itself = Cien
The minute you add another number to "100" it becomes "ciento"
Cien = 100
Ciento uno = 101
Ciento dos = 102
Ciento diez = 110
Ciento quince = 115
Ciento veinte = 120
Ciento veintiuno / ciento veinte y uno = 121
Ciento treinta = 130
Ciento treinta y cinco = 135
The numbers after 200 (until you get to the 1000s) will be one word...
The numbers will combine "cientos" with the first number"
Example the number 200 = you'll combine "dos" with "cientos"
Doscientos = 200
Doscientos dos = 202
Doscientos veinte = 220
Trescientos = 300
Cuatrocientos = 400
Quinientos = 500
Seiscientos = 600
Setecientos = 700
Ochocientos = 800
Novecientos = 900
The in the 1000's and up are straight forward (up until a billion)
Mil = 1,000
Mil diez = 1,101
Mil quinientos = 1,500
Dos mil = 2,000
Dos mil quinientos = 2,500
Tres mil = 3,000
Cuatros mil = 4,000
Cinco mil = 5,000
Seis mil = 6,000
Siete mil = 7,000
Ocho mil = 8,000
Nueve mil = 9,000
Diez mil = 10,000
Cien mil = 100,000
Doscientos mil = 200,000
Trescientos mil = 300,000
The big numbers:
The only one that's straight forward are the "Millions"
One million = Un millón
123,875,345 = Un millón veinte y tres mil ochosientos setenta y cinco mil trescientos cuarenta y cinco
Two million = Dos millones (have to make sure that you make "millón" plural when you have more than one million)
One billion = This one is tricky. This one is not "un billón" this one is Mil Millones = A thousand times a million
One billion = Mil millones
A trillion = This one is the "Un Billón" is Spanish
A quadrillion = Mil billones
A Quintilian = Un trillón
Hope this Helps!!
