Je: To say “I” (pronounced = JEAU)

Tu: This is an informal way of saying “you.”

Il: This is pronoun usually means “he” or “it”

Elle: This pronoun usually means “she” or “it”.

On:

  1. It can be a pronoun for the unknown. For instance, if I don’t know who is knocking I could either say, quelqu’un or on (Quelqu’un sonne à la porte or On sonne à la porte) both meaning that “someone is knocking at the door.”

  2. It can be the pronoun for things people do in a group. For instance we can say, “Christmas is celebrated on the 25th of December”. With this kind of generalization one will always use on: On fête Nöel le 25 decembre.

  3. It can be the pronoun for proverbs to represent what one may do or should generally do. The proverb “Moins on sait, plus on croit” (The less we know, the more we believe).

  4. Lastly, it can also mean “we”. In France and in most of French speaking world this is used a lot and at times more than "nous".

Nous: To say “we” in French, we say nous. (pronounced "nu"

Vous: This pronoun has two different meanings. The first meaning being “You formal” and the second one being “You All”. (pronounced "vu")

Elles: This pronoun is used for “they” in the feminine plural form. (ONLY FOR FEMALES) (Everything in French is divided between male and female nouns) (Elle + Elle= Elles) (pronounced elle)

Ils: This pronoun is used for “they” when there is a group of either JUST males or a group of male and female together. (pronounced "il")

Boy+Boy=they= ils

Girl + Boy = ils
